Ghibli Mania!! And OpenAI’s Mind-Blowing Image Update

The latest image update from OpenAI got me almost as excited as the very first time I tried ChatGPT.
No exaggeration. It’s just really good.

About a week ago, while working on a creative project, I started noticing something: the image generation quality from ChatGPT had significantly improved. A little while later, I hopped on social media, and suddenly the entire AI creative community was buzzing.

This wasn’t just my imagination. OpenAI had rolled out a major update and everyone was raving about the new possibilities. So, what’s changed, and why should you care?

What’s New in the OpenAI Image Update

No More Distorted Text
If you’ve used AI image generators before, you’ll know that text on images used to come out… well, weird. But with this update, ChatGPT now generates clear, accurate, legible text. Perfect for mockups, social content, or branding.

Below, I took a screenshot of a template from Canva and asked ChatGPT to recreate with an image of myself I had put in prior. Before this image update, it would have mumbled up the text, but see below, awesome !!!!!!

Creative Style Transformations
Want your image in a different style? Upload a photo and ask ChatGPT to give it a new expression. Think watercolor, Ghibli-style, surrealism, Pixar, you name it.

I have always dreamed of bringing my Visual-Poetry collection called Love Diary to life through animation. This new image capability makes that dream more achievable than ever. I’ll be sharing some of my experiments below.

Image Editing Gets a Major Upgrade
ChatGPT now allows for easy image editing and manipulation. The kind of work that used to take hours in Photoshop can now be done in seconds with a simple prompt. Need to remove an object, change colors, or adjust scenery? Just say the word.

Overall Better Image Quality
Beyond new features, the overall output quality has taken a big leap forward. Images are sharper, more detailed, and feel more polished than previous versions.

Are There Downsides?

A Threat to Graphic Designers?
I’ve personally spent countless hours trying to master tools like Photoshop, Illustrator, and CorelDRAW, so I understand how this development could feel both exciting and a little scary.

But here’s the silver lining. These tools don’t replace creativity. They empower it. If you’re a designer, this update could actually save you time, streamline workflows, and help you produce more at a higher quality.

Slightly Slower Rendering Times
Images now take a bit longer to render, but honestly, good things take time. And when you see the quality, you’ll agree it’s worth the wait.

Also worth noting: ChatGPT-4o’s image generation appears to be different from the DALL·E model’s, almost like it’s running on its own unique engine.

Daily Image Limits
Demand has been so high that OpenAI had to limit the number of images per day. Free-tier users get up to 3 daily generations, while Plus users get more. Pro subscribers (the 200 dollars per month crowd) are probably generating non-stop.

Potential for Misuse
As with every powerful technology, there’s always a risk of misuse. That’s why it’s more important than ever to stay informed and cautious. Tools don’t have ethics. People do.

Final Thoughts

We’re living in an era where imagination meets execution. Faster. Easier. And more beautifully than ever before. This OpenAI update is a game-changer for creators, whether you’re a designer, poet, marketer, or just someone who loves experimenting with visuals.

The future of creativity is here. And it’s AI-powered.

Ps: I tried generating the feature image for this post using ChatGPT after training it on past feature images, but it seems after rollout, Open AI is limiting a lot of use cases in order not to violate copyright, let’s see what the upcoming weeks bring. I had to go into Canva 🙂
